This Spring I was lucky enough to actually open my daily email from Groupon and find a deal for the Bloomfield School in Brooklyn. I hopped on it and put that Groupon to good use. At The Bloomfield School you can take courses on making jewelry; anything from rings starting from wax into metal to pendant making. I signed up for the 2 course workshop on making stacking rings from wax to metal. The first night we started with a piece of wax and using various tools ranging from saws and files to alcohol and flame we created the exact replica of what our rings would be. During that week our wax rings were brought to a Caster in Midtown's jewelry district where a mold was made and using the metal of our choice the ring was made into and actual metal ring. At the second class meeting we used files and sand paper to file down, polish and clean up our rings. In the end we had a wonderful set of first rings! The whole experience was very positive and inspiring. I see a long lasting love affair with jewelry design/making in my future. If you're in the NYC area and are interested in getting your feet wet in metals I highly recommend checking out The Bloomfield School! ....Oh, and I will possibly be setting up a little Jeweler's studio in the corner of my bedroom by summer's end. :) happy friday! it has been a busy week for me and i am very thankful for it being friday. have a great weekend!
