The Pattern Observer has featured some of my work on their blog! For the past 2 months I have been a member of their Textile Design Lab and have found it to be a great community. Not only do you have access to the Sellable Sketch and The Ultimate Guide to Repeats courses but you also have a great group of fellow designers who have similar goals! I highly recommend the Pattern Observer!
i have been playing around with some ink sketches of animals to create this new collection. here is a glimpse at where i am at with it. i hope to have the website updated next week with full collections that will be available for purchase or license. check back soon!
marni pre fall 14 is rich in color, texture and layers. i find this collection very inspiring as i go into designing fall 15 prints. luxurious brocades, masculine plaids and whimsical florals going forward!
over the next few days i will be posting some of my favorite looks from the pre fall '14 shows. i absolutely love the mix of simplistic goes with mexican-blanket-style stripes and smooth leather. the subtle color palette paired with the mixture of texture and prints give an updated style to silhouettes that would otherwise have a retro look.
eyes are trending!! i'm starting to see them all over the place. keep and eye out for them. ;)
eyes can be done in a lot of different styles; for instance take a look at kenzo's graphic simplistic approach and then take a look at mara hoffman's ethnic approach. be seen in eyeballs! take a look at a couple of my patterns that work with this trend.
watercolor prints have been decorating the runways for a few seasons now, and it's not hard to see why. they set the mood and carry color so well. watercolors can come across as geometrics, florals or abstract paintings. they also work well for both spring/summer or fall/winter, depending on how they are colored. take a look at some of my abstract watercolor prints available below.
i have created a new inspiration tumblr compiled of some of my favorite images on the internet. take a peek if you would like to follow some amazing artworks! click here
animal prints can seem scary at times, you may feel like your inner teen is shining through if you were to wear one. but there are options for those who do not want the usual 3 color leopard. i have posted three untraditional options for animal prints.
starting from the top, colored differently this watercolor splatter print does not read as animal, however in the more neutral tones it gives off an animalistic feel.
2nd down, this print is quite literally leopard. incorporating the whole body of the leopard provides a fresh approach to an animal print. making this print trendy and fun.
last but not least, we have the animal floral. is it an animal or is it a floral? yes, kind of a long shot but like our first watercolor print, when colored right the camouflaged spots within this floral also read as an animal.
